This is the English version of my Finnish fashion blog Heijastuspinta. Heijastuspinta means "reflective surfce". I write about clothing and my personal style, adding a few bits of deep and all dwelling thoughts about life.
And who am I? I'm Maria Morri, 22 year old student from Finland.
Here's some of my favourite wintery shoes at the moment, all from Vagabond. I love each pair, they all hold something special to them. An edge. Yet they are timeless and comfy to the feet. And they're very affordable, and yet real leather (this thing is not negotiable when it comes to shoes, I will not wear plastic in my feet anymore if it's not a sandal that lets my feet feel the breeze. Plus plastic shoes tend to break in rough temperatures, such as those we have in Finland).
From left to right Muscat, Thelma (my scifi shoe pair!), Crivits and Missy
A pretty akward situation.
Those stiched are The Thing with these shoes. It somehow reminds me of Rick Owens, and then.. does not.
I've been staring at some dark lipsticks after seeing them pretty much everywhere. I've sometimes toyed with the thought of trying something really dark red before, but I've been a coward. Now that everybody's doing it, I feel I don't stand out so much and feel weird about it, so I thought I'd give it a try. I certainly do like it!
MaxFactor, shade "So Berry"
Nevermind the messy appearance of me and the lipstick, I'm doing the best I can! ;D Better pics are also under way!
May I suggest a movie? I give you the first and only Finnish horror movie that has ever made it to theatres, and a movie that is actuall a very good one with heavy moods, beautiful visuals and acting that really makes you believe everything that's happening, no matter how surreal it sometimes is. All these qualities are quite often absent in Finnish cinematography, so most people are really excited about this.
The movie is spoken in Finnish, but there are English subtitles available on the dvd.
Watch the trailer for AJ Annila'sSauna:
I really like how Annila brings along some Finnish mythology to his movies (see also Jadesoturi, or Jade Warrior, for Finnish-Chineese mythology, also quite amazing visuals, music and a plot that makes you gasp your breath and also laugh and maybe even cry a bit. They also do those cool fighting scenes you see in kung-fu films and NEVER in Finnish films) and shows boldly the things that us Finns can relate to, but never really makes them the whole point, unlike most Finnish movies made during the past few decades... They're pretty much all so "Hey, look at us, Finns can make movies too, isn't it great, let's do a FINNISH movie, see, here we have a FINNISH movie!". So... Underlining. Hate it. Hate underlines. I don't like movies for dummies -sort of things. Sauna makes me forget I'm actually doing exactly that - watching a Finnish movie. It's that good.
That said, see Sauna. I'll give you spooks and offer some real nice ambient.
I've been lately very deeply in love with this super black nailpolish by Mavala. Nevermind the fact that my hand is shaky and I manage to make a terrible mess everytime I swim in this stuff. I've also tried nailpolishes by Essie, and they're excellent quality - Mavala isn't falling behind by one bit, though. Well, maybe the color range. Mavala has mostly just shades of reds. The tiny bottles are more to my liking though, I have to say. They last me forever anyways.
This is what I've been wearing mostly when I step outside. When it gets more cold, I'm forced to switch to woolen coats (which are pretty cool too, I just love the leather more.) The idea of wearing my bike pants outside of Summer months came from the lovely Anna-Maria.
Leather jacket - JSFN via Ellos, scarf - Et Cetera, otk boots - Ten Points, knit dress - American Apparel, bike pants - Asos, woolen socks - Falke, bag - Furla, left hand - Fashionology.nl, right hand - H&M and Lindex
I love how good my hair looks in these shots. I've really grown to like my locks during the past few years, but it really took the right cut and the courage to try out different shades and colorings. Now it's very purrrrfecto!
It gets pretty nasty sometimes in Finland with all the wetty snowish-like stuff pouring down, making streets slippery icy and destroying all the leather shoes. I hate that aspect of Finnish Autumns. However what I do like, is the beauty of it.
(This turned out my favourite shot. I have it as my wallpaper, hehe. If you'd like to have it too, be welcomed to grab the original sized verion (3456 x 2298)here.)
The colors in the middle of all the grayness, that must be the best part of it all.
I got a gift from my grandma. Well, not really a gift. This bag by Furla was something she got for herself, but then she realized she really didn't have any use for it, and she asked if I'd like to have it. Well, I'm sure I can always squeeze one qualit leather shoulder bag somewhere around here! Thanks grandma!
I also got my hair redone a bit - the cut, mostly. I also had some extra highlights, or should I say, darklights, to even out the shade of my locks. Yep, this is pretty much the closest shade of real hair color that I've ever had. I love it. Goodbye to all the nightmareish moments with roots!
Dress- Selected Femme, spiked bracelet and claw ring - Fashionology.nl (check it out, there's some new cool things every Thursday!), thick chain - H&M Men, stoned bracelet - H&M, studs - Lindex, belt - second hand, bag - Furla, woolen socks- Falke, nails Mavala: Black
I'm sooo exicited, the postman brought me these lovely things yesterday, they came from from Netherlands...
I ordered three beautiful pieces from Fashionology.nl, created by very talented Rachel Duister. I payed via Paypal (orders over 50€ get free delivery!) and everything went alright, I received these in less than a week from placing my order. I love them!
My fav. 35€.
The slightly gothic vibe is really making me breathe heavily at the moment. I also love birds in terms of analogy - that's why after ordering this claw ring I was forced to make a new purchse the next day.... ;)
I have grown to really love this silky cardigan by H&M: it has some serious Rick Owens -vibes. I dig the hem, wind makes it fly around and look very layerish.
Leather jacket - JSFN via Ellos, cardigan - H&M, dress as a top - Selected Femme, pant - Vila, shoes- Vagabond (ihkutus!), wrists H&M + Men and Lindex, knuckle ring - Glitter
I love every piece of this outfit. It's important to be in love with what you have - makes everything so much easier!
