The Summer in Finland is usually pretty lame - it's more often at least chilly than it is real hot, it rains, it winds, sometimes it feels like we skip Summer and jump straight from Spring to Autumn.
But when it does get nice and warm and sunny, people are very happy about it. They appreciate it, they embrace it, they try and make the most out of it. In a way it's pretty tormenting: "It's warm and sunny, we HAVE to go outside, we HAVE to go to beach, we HAVE to do something!" When the heatwaves a rare thing, it puts pressure on you.
When asked how you spent your Summer, people are thinking about the times it was really hot and what they did then, not what they did when it rained and chilled people's bottoms off (and howcome we never ask how was your winter?). Nobody wants to reply "I was indoors watching tely, playing video games, sleeping and avoiding the sun rays." As much as I do like the warmth, the Sun, the Summer and the the lightness of living at Summer times, I hate the pressure and the unified view of how people ought to spend their time in order to be classified as normal, and in order to be treated as such.
I do get outside too, you know. :D
